2019 – The Wandering House
Notions of Home and Belonging
Project Overview
In its first phase, back in 2019, The Wandering House invited community members to record their thoughts on home in a physical space conceived solely for this purpose. Implemented in Northfield in the summer and in Lanesboro in early fall, participants entered the space alone and recorded their responses to questions presented to them in advance. No one was asked to identify themselves by name and those who preferred not to record their voice answered the questionnaire in writing. A modern-day confessional, The Wandering House offered a non-judgmental space for people to speak freely, and like the act of fishing, it encouraged the search for what lies below the surface.
